Gunnison Car Show - Aug. 25-27 2006
Taken from Sept E-News:
The
Gunnison Car Show
was OUTSTANDING!!! Even though the weather on Saturday's Show dropped
some rain on and off all day, we ALL still had a GREAT TIME and the Breakfast
Cruise to Crested Butte was AWESOME! The Town blocked off the whole main
street downtown Crested Butte for all the Street Rodders to park 3-wide
down
Main Street. The town actually "came to life" as we all drove into
town with our rumbling machines, and residents storming the streets to take a
look at all the great looking Cars!
While they were looking and taking
pictures of all of our Cars, we all headed into the Timberline Restaurant for a
special Buffet laid out just for us, and the food was excellent, and the
Restaurant happy to see all of us! All in all, it was a great time, and the
only problem we encountered was Dave Kellner's '75 Nova on the way back to
Denver, but we got it to Fairplay
for safe keeping, until Rick Ellinger could
come back with his trailer and pick it up that same night. Hopefully Dave will
get it back on the road again before the next outing.
WHAT A TEAM!!! Sure hope
we get a chance to do this show again sometime, it was a LOT
of fun! A BIG
THANK YOU to Mike Callihan (Pres.), his staff, and the
whole Gunnison Car Club for putting on such a GREAT SHOW and the nice
WELCOME we all received from the people in Gunnison Colo.

This show is always Labor Day weekend. In the past it has been a great show.
This year
like always it was good. On Friday night they have a get acquainted
party and feed you
supper with free drinks also. Sat is the show and shine in
the park. This year there were 325 vehicles. You have to pay for your lunch on
Sat. Sat night they have a Banquet that you
have to buy a meal ticket. At the
Banquet they give away the door prizes and the money
give-away prize. This year
they gave $2600.00 away, a 350 chevy engine, a 7R4 trans,
and two jackets. On
Sunday they had Church services to start the day and then the
Poker Run. This
year the run was to San Luis, where they feed you again, barbequed pig
and free
drinks. So for your $25.00 entry fee you get a chance for the cash drawing
(if
you are pre-registered), all other door prizes and two free meals. Don’t see how
you
can beat this. Almost forgot they also have a scavenger hunt. This show
was a little
different. The best participating club plaque went to the John DeerTractor Club.
Friday night they also gave away 10 pound bags of potatoes. |
